Dr. Stephen Johnson
Stephen Johnson, M.D. has dedicated his career to corneal surgery and the restoration of vision.
After graduating from the Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Johnson served his internship and was in Ophthalmology residency at the Indiana University Medical Center. He was board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1981. Dr. Johnson was a fellow in Corneal Surgery and Diseases at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Since 1983, he has been in private practice at Midwest Eye Institute.
Dr. Johnson has a special interest in the field of refractive surgery. At Baylor he explored a method of changing refraction with corneal implants. In 1981, he attended one of the first United States training sessions on radial keratotomy. Dr. Johnson was one of the first surgeons in Indiana to perform epikeratophakia. This is a refractive surgery technique often referred to as the "living contact lens". In 1995, Dr. Johnson performed the first FDA approved corneal surgery with the excimer laser in Indiana. Dr. Johnson is a top lasik physician in Indianapolis and was selected by his peers to be listed in "The Best Doctors in America: Midwest Region: 1999-2000, "Best Doctors Nationwide" 2001-2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
